In her book, “Hungry for God,” Margaret Feinberg talks about the two different Greek words used for “time” in Scripture: Chronos and Kairos.
Chronos time relates to chronological time (think quantity). It expresses measurable units: seasons, dates, calendars, etc., while kairos time is often used to reference something deeper than the ticking of a clock that chronos time marks. Kairos time deals more with the quality of time. This gives the idea that time is more than measurement. It is something to be savored and experienced. Continue reading

John Piper mentions having a “wartime mindset” in his book, “Don’t Waste Your Life.” Using this phrase, or the phrase “wartime lifestyle” reminds us that there is an actual war going on in the world–between Christ and Satan, truth and falsehood, belief and unbelief. It tells us that there are weapons to be funded and used, but that these weapons are not swords or guns or bombs. As I’ve been reading through Margaret Feinberg’s book, “Hungry for God,” I have been learning to listen to the gentle whispers of God rather than looking for Him in the windstorms.
The section that I read today was about how God beckons us. It mentions Elijah and an experience that he has when God speaks to him. This is just after God has brought him victory on Mount Carmel against the false prophets of Baal. He went from a major spiritual high to being extremely depressed and on the run for his life. After crying out that God take his life from him, God beckons him gently. Continue reading

“Hungry for God,” the book by Margaret Feinberg that I ordered last week, came today! The book is essentially about hearing God’s voice in the ordinary and the everyday, and I am PUMPED to read it!
God often speaks to us through whispers. He could get our attention through sounding trumpets or throwing a fiery bush in our path. But rather, He often speaks softly in order to draw us closer to Him in the process. Continue reading
I love the song, “You are More” by Tenth Avenue North, and it always brings me to the promises of God in Zephaniah 3:17:
“The LORD your God is with you,
He is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with his love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
If you go to Huntington University (as many of you who read my blog probably do), you may have heard Margaret Feinberg speak this morning.
She spoke about hearing the quiet voice of the Lord, and she noted that one translation calls His voice a “thin silence,” which can really be when He speaks to us the most. That still small voice can be difficult to hear sometimes, and I completely related to what she had to say today, so, when she mentioned her book, I couldn’t wait to order it (which I JUST did less than 10 minutes ago!) and read it.
Here is a quick synopsis taken from the book:
